Elsys expands product portfolio with NB-IoT/LTE-M sensors

Swedish sensor manufacturer Elsys is expanding its product portfolio with two new sensors with NB-IoT and LTE-M connectivity: the ERS Lite NB-IoT/LTE-M and the ERS CO₂ NB-IoT/LTE-M. This addition marks a significant step in the strategic direction of the company, which was previously known primarily for its LoRaWAN-based solutions.

More flexibility in radio selection

With the introduction of two new sensors based on NB-IoT/LTE-M, Elsys is responding to the increasing demand for flexible and energy-efficient IoT solutions, especially in areas with limited LoRaWAN coverage or specific network requirements. The new sensors are particularly suitable for applications in smart buildings, industry and environmental monitoring.

The ERS Lite NB-IoT/LTE-M is a wireless sensor that measures temperature and humidity. It offers a battery life of up to ten years and is manufactured entirely in the EU. Thanks to the Near Field Communication (NFC) function, the sensor can be easily configured via smartphone, which enables quick commissioning.

The ERS CO₂ NB-IoT/LTE-M goes one step further and measures light intensity, movement (PIR) and CO₂ concentrations in addition to temperature and humidity. This sensor is also characterized by a long battery life and simple configuration via NFC.

The sensors should be available in May 2025.

NB-IoT - what's behind it?

NB-IoT (Narrowband IoT) is a mobile communications standard that was specially developed for IoT applications with low energy consumption and low data rates. It uses the existing mobile network infrastructure (e.g. LTE) and offers very good coverage - even in buildings or basements.

Compared to LoRaWAN, which is based on license-free frequencies and is often operated in local or private networks, NB-IoT enables direct, network-independent communication via mobile network operators. This makes NB-IoT particularly attractive for large-scale applications or projects where no dedicated LoRaWAN infrastructure is available or the sensors are distributed over such a wide area that it is not worth setting up a LoRaWAN network at each individual location.

Proven quality - made in the EU

With the step into the NB-IoT/LTE-M area, Elsys is pursuing a consistent expansion of its product strategy. In future, customers will benefit from a larger selection of communication protocols - to suit the respective infrastructure or requirements. All sensors will continue to be manufactured in the EU, which underlines Elsys' quality standards and focus on sustainability.
